Potomac riverbank (temporal tributary), (2022)

Potomac riverbank (temporal tributary), (2022) collapses the temporal distance between the deep past and the present by mapping the Potomac River using pigments I foraged from its banks. I connect with the material components of the river throughout each process I used to create this painting: from gathering silt from the river, grinding it into a fine pigment, and to mulling the paint by hand. This slow process enables me to deepen my relationship with the site as I preserve its present-day topography and tidal currents.
